Vision Sound & Light Complete Contract for Tayside Police at G8 Following news released last week that Vision Sound and Light (VSL) had grown by acquiring Computer Technology Scotland (CTS), it was today revealed that they have been working alongside Tayside Police and the Home Office, to deliver the audio-visual requirements for the Command Centres at Tayside Police Dundee Headquarters and Gleneagles Hotel. The contract, which was worth over £80,000, was part of the security requirements to police the area around the famous hotel. Designed to allow multiple video pictures taken from over 45 CCTV cameras sited around the Perthshire countryside, large format plasma displays and giant screens showing projected images were at the centre of operations to display visual images from any camera, allowing police to direct resources where and when required. Inspector Martin Buchan of Tayside Police was responsible for production of the Command Centres for the event and he said, “Policing the G8 Summit, was the largest operation that Tayside Police have ever been responsible for. The audio-visual presentations in the Command Centres assisted Commanders greatly in the their deliberations and decision making. The technical provision by local firm Vision, Sound & Light, working in conjunction with the Home Office Scientific development Branch and ourselves, satisfied our requirement for the project, in this respect Both the HQ and Gleaneagles Command Centres needed to receive the same data and this was achieved using Wide Area Network (WAN) routers from cat5 signals through IP codecs, over 40 miles apart. The images were displayed on banks of 42” plasma screens and four high-powered DLP projectors at each Command Centre. A team of technicians from VSL laid the cables, installed the equipment, provided 24/7 maintenance support and derigged the entire set-up after the summit ended. Gary Langlands MD of VSL comments, “We have worked with Tayside Police on a number of audiovisual and IT projects since VSL was founded last year. We are delighted that Tayside Police placed so much confidence in our ability to deliver, on this critical deployment and we are proud of the part we played in this operation. It was also encouraging that a local company was used to support this event amid the negative publicity that local firms were losing out. We hope to continue to support Tayside Police in the future for other events and for audiovisual and IT requirements in general and will offer the value and service they have experienced from us as a local good value supplier. ” |
